Brief description of Polymyxin -

Polymyxin is used for the treatment of eye infections. It is an ophthalmic preparation, which is very effective for the cure of eye infections.

Working of Polymyxin-

Neomycin sulphate is the main active component of Polymyxin. Neomycin sulphate is an antibiotic, which is used to prevent or treat skin infections caused by bacteria. It is not efficient against fungal or viral infections. Neomycin sulphate shows its working by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins associated with growth and cleavage of bacteria, thus blocking cell division and growth. Aminoglycoside is known to be bactericidal. This ultimately kills the bacteria and clears up the infection.

Contradictory effects of Polymyxin-

Do not use Neomycin if you are allergic to any ingredient in the preparation. Avoid the use of Neomycin sulphate if you have any fungal eye infection. In case you have a history of diabetes, glaucoma, or thinning of the cornea or white of the eye, then avoid the use of Neomycin. Avoid use of Neomycin if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

Drug interactions of Polymyxin-

Polymyxin may interact with certain drugs like Alrex, Morphine sulphate, Paracetamol, Protonix, and Mucinex.

Dosage regimen for Polymyxin-

Polymyxin is an ophthalmic preparation used for the treatment of eye infections. Before you use the eye drops you have to clean up your face and hands properly.  Then leave them to dry completely. Tilt your neck slightly back and after that instill a one drop of eye drops in the affected eye. After that press the eyes pressure to the inside corner of the eyelid for 1 to 2 minutes.

Annoying effects of Polymyxin-

You may feel some annoying effects of Polymyxin after instilling it like dry skin, irritation, redness, swelling, breathing problem, tiredness in the chest, eye pain, and changes in vision.

Cautionary measures while using Polymyxin-

Remove your contact lenses while applying this preparation. Do not apply any cosmetics like mascara and eyeliner while instilling this medication. It may make your vision blurred so avoid any attention needed task.
