Description of Gengraf: Gengraf has key component as Cyclosporine that declines body immune system. The immune system creates troubles in organ transplantation. During organ transplantation, our immune system can reject any organ so Gengraf can be used at that time. It can also be used for rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis.

Mechanism of action: Cyclosporine reduces the activity of T cells by coupling with cyclophilin i.e. T cells and lowers the immune response that is helpful at the time of organ transplant.

Dose information: a) Dose recommendation: For preventing organ rejection, you should take 25 mg. The dose varies as per your body weight. The initial dose is given 4 to 12 hours before you go for transplantation.  

b) Missed dose: if you skip any dose, take it as soon as you remember or if next dosing time is nearer then begin from that very day. Do not double the dose.

c) Overdose: Never take double the quantity of dose.


  • Shun its use if you are allergic to this drug.
  • Never use Gengraf if you have cancer, blood pressure problem, or kidney disorder.
  • Do not breastfeed your child when you are taking Gengraf.


  • Grapefruit or grapefruit juice should not be consumed, as it will potentiate side effects.
  • Avoid being with people who have infections.
  • Stop live vaccination when you are also taking cyclosporine.
  • Avoid exposure to direct sunlight as it may cause sunburn.
  • Frequent blood tests are important to check the effect of Cyclosporine.

Side effects:

Some after effects that you may observe with Gengraf areas:

  • Change in mental state, unusual bleeding
  • Decreased vision, confusion or weakness
  • High blood pressure, high potassium
  • Kidney/liver problem, tremors
  • Acne, nausea, diarrhea

Drug interactions:

Various drugs that highly interact with Gengraf and interrupt the functioning of this drug are Rifabutin, Bosentan, Birth control pills, seizure medications, steroid medications, drugs for lowering cholesterol or antiviral drugs.
